Welcome to My Blog

After spending the first part of my career in the Navy under the ocean and the next building systems to support those same sailors, I have seen how deeply technology and mission are connected.

This blog is a place to explore that connection. It focuses on how modern engineering, leadership, and systems thinking can be applied to complex, high-stakes problems that demand both technical precision and operational judgment.

What You’ll Find Here

My work sits at the intersection of defense, technology, and leadership. The topics here will reflect that perspective:

Modern Engineering in Mission Contexts: Applying contemporary DevOps, cloud, and automation practices to defense and government systems while maintaining security, reliability, and trust.

Building and Leading Teams: Lessons drawn from both military and startup environments on leading with clarity, creating alignment, and sustaining performance under pressure.

Systems Thinking: How principles that guide submarines and distributed systems alike can help us design resilient technology and organizations.

Continuous Experimentation: Prototypes, workflows, and insights that come from staying hands-on with emerging tools and architectures.

This blog is not only about technology. It is about the discipline of building systems that matter—systems that make people safer, more capable, and more connected.

Why I’m Writing

Defense technology is evolving quickly. A new generation of builders is bringing modern engineering practices into environments that have long resisted change. That progress is essential, but it requires more than new tools. It requires a mindset that values both innovation and discipline, speed and safety, agility and accountability.

I write to contribute to that mindset. To learn in public. To exchange ideas with others who are building for mission impact, whether in startups, government, or research.

If something here challenges your perspective or sharpens how you think about technology and mission, then it has done its job.

Under the Hood

This site runs on Astro and Tailwind CSS, deployed on Cloudflare Pages. The goal is simplicity, transparency, and performance. The code will be open source soon for anyone who wants to use it as a foundation or reference.

Coming Up

A few topics I am planning to write about include:

  • What Startups and the Military Can Teach Each Other About Leadership
  • Building for Reliability in Adversarial Environments
  • Infrastructure as Code in Secure Contexts
  • The Role of Curiosity in Mission-Driven Engineering
  • Why Open Source Has a Place in Defense

Thank you for reading, and for being part of a growing community of engineers and leaders who care deeply about the mission behind the technology.

You can connect with me on GitHub, LinkedIn, or YouTube to continue the conversation.
